Karolinne Maia Rocha, MD, PhD
Professor Karolinne Maia Rocha is Professor of Ophthalmology, Arturo & Holly Melosi Endowed Chair, and Fellowship Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Storm Eye Institute, USA. A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, she specialises in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery, and currently directs the Cornea and Refractive Services.
Dr Rocha completed her medical degree in Brazil, followed by advanced fellowship and postdoctoral training in cornea and refractive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and Emory University. Her research focuses on intraocular lenses, optical aberrations, ectasia, pseudoaccommodation, and presbyopia.
An internationally recognised educator and investigator, she has published more than 300 scientific works and has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and refractive surgery. She serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Refractive Surgery.
