Damien Gatinel, MD, PhD
Professor Damien Gatinel is Head of the Anterior and Refractive Surgery Department at the Rothschild Foundation in Paris, France, where he leads a leading European centre in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. An internationally recognised surgeon and innovator, he is co-inventor of the first diffractive trifocal intraocular lens and developed a novel mathematical classification of higher-order aberrations during his PhD in applied mathematics.
His research focuses on IOL optical design, laser refractive surgery modelling, astigmatism correction, and early keratoconus detection. He co-developed the SCORE Analyzer, an AI-based system for identifying ectasia-susceptible eyes.
Professor Gatinel has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, delivered over 200 invited lectures worldwide, and serves on executive and research committees of leading international ophthalmic societies.
