David Kent completed his ophthalmology training in Auckland in 1992. He then did a one year fellowship in glaucoma at Moorfields Eye Hospital London in 1993-94 followed by a 19 month fellowship in excimer laser surgery, intraocular lens research and ocular pathology at the Storm Eye Institute, Charleston, South Carolina.

In 1996 he established the Fendalton Eye Clinic where he specialises in cataract and refractive surgery. He began Intralase LASIK in 2006.

David is a regular presenter at international cataract and refractive surgery meetings.
